Only your birth month and day are needed — the personal year calculation uses the current calendar year, not your birth year.
How personal year numbers work
In numerology, time moves in 9-year cycles. Each year within that cycle carries a different quality of energy — a different theme, a different set of opportunities, and a different set of demands. Your personal year number tells you where you are in that cycle for any given calendar year.
Personal Year 1 is always a year of beginnings — new ventures, fresh starts, initiating momentum. Personal Year 9 is always a year of completions and release. The years in between each carry their own distinct character. Knowing which year you are in helps you work with the available energy rather than against it.

Frequently asked questions
What is a personal year number?
Your personal year number is a numerological cycle that runs from January 1 to December 31 of any calendar year. It is calculated from your birth month, birth day, and the current year. Each personal year number (1–9) describes the dominant theme and energy available to you during that twelve-month period, as part of a 9-year repeating cycle.
How is the personal year number calculated?
Add your birth month (reduced if necessary) + your birth day (reduced if necessary) + the year (reduced to a single digit or master number). For example, someone born on June 15: 6 + (1+5=6) + (year reduced to 1) = 13 → 1+3 = Personal Year 4.
When does a personal year start and end?
The standard approach uses January 1 to December 31 of the given year. Some numerologists use the birthday as the transition point, so your new personal year begins on your birthday. Both approaches are in use — the January-to-December method is the most common for annual forecasting.
What does Personal Year 9 mean?
Personal Year 9 is the final year of your 9-year numerology cycle. It is a year of completion, release, and clearing. Endings that feel overdue tend to arrive. Relationships, situations, and identities that no longer fit begin to resolve. The clearing that happens in Year 9 makes space for the fresh start of Year 1 that follows.
Can a personal year number be a master number (11, 22, 33)?
In most numerological traditions, personal year numbers run only from 1 to 9 and are fully reduced — master numbers are not typically preserved for the personal year calculation. However, some advanced practitioners do keep 11 and 22 if they appear before the final reduction. The calculator above uses the most widely practiced method: full reduction to 1–9.
