What is the North Node?

The North Node is not a planet — it is a mathematical point where the Moon's orbital path crosses the Sun's apparent path (the ecliptic). In astrology it is considered one of the most spiritually significant points in the birth chart: a compass pointing toward the soul's growth direction in this lifetime.

The North Node is always paired with the South Node, which sits directly opposite (180° away). Where the South Node represents innate comfort, familiar patterns, and what the soul has already mastered, the North Node represents the unfamiliar territory that brings the deepest fulfillment when embraced. Together they form the Nodal Axis — a story of karmic evolution running through your entire chart.

North Node in Pisces · South Node in Virgo (2025–2026)

From January 2025 through July 2026 the collective karmic axis runs through Pisces and Virgo. Themes of faith, surrender, compassion, and spiritual connection (Pisces) are the collective growth edges, while over-analysis, perfectionism, and chronic fixing (Virgo) are the patterns to release. If your natal North Node is in Pisces, this is an especially significant period for your soul path.

Frequently asked questions

What is the North Node in astrology?

The North Node (also called the True Node or Dragon's Head) is a mathematical point in your birth chart — not a planet — that represents the karmic direction your soul is moving toward in this lifetime. It is always directly opposite the South Node. Together they form the Nodal Axis, which astrologers use to understand your soul's past (South Node) and your growth path (North Node). The Nodes are calculated from the intersection of the Moon's orbital path with the ecliptic.

How do I find my North Node sign?

Because the Lunar Nodes move slowly backward through the zodiac — spending approximately 18 months in each sign — your birth year and month are usually sufficient to determine your North Node sign. Enter your birth date in the calculator above and it will look up your sign from the historical ephemeris. For house placement and exact degree, you will need your birth time and location.

What is the difference between North Node and South Node?

The North and South Nodes are always in opposite signs and represent two ends of your karmic axis. The South Node describes your comfort zone — talents, patterns, and themes you've already developed (associated with past life experiences in some traditions). The North Node describes the qualities and experiences you're here to grow toward in this lifetime, often things that feel unfamiliar or challenging at first but lead to deep fulfillment.

Is North Node the same as True Node?

True Node and North Node refer to the same point. 'True Node' refers to the actual calculated position of the lunar node, accounting for the Moon's slight wobble in orbit. 'Mean Node' is a smoothed average that moves at a constant rate. Most modern astrologers use the True Node. The difference between True and Mean Node is typically just 1–2 degrees and rarely affects sign placement.

What does North Node in Pisces mean in 2025–2026?

From January 2025 through July 2026, the North Node transits Pisces while the South Node is in Virgo. Collectively, this is a period when themes of faith, compassion, dissolving boundaries, and spiritual trust are karmic priorities for humanity. On a personal level, anyone born with a natal North Node in Pisces will feel this transit as a powerful activation — a time when the soul path themes of their entire life come into sharp focus. Pisces North Node individuals are especially supported in releasing over-analysis (Virgo South Node) and surrendering to spiritual flow.
